How will you light up the dawn this year?
The choice is yours – commemorate our veterans with a traditional Dawn Service at your local cenotaph, or honour them from home at 6am.
We are committed to safely honouring our veterans, past and present - whether at traditional services, or by commemorating personally at home.
ANZAC DAY - LIGHT UP THE DAWN 25th April 2021
This ANZAC Day, RSL invites all Australians to unite safely, and honour and thank our nation’s veterans on Sunday 25 April, 2021.
Light Up the Dawn was an idea which originated within the Australian community, and was supported and promoted across Australia in a year of great challenge and change. As the sun peeked above the horizon, the country stood united – in uniforms or pyjamas, wearing medals, poppies and sprigs of rosemary – to let Australia’s veterans know that their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Based on the tremendous community response to this initiative, we will again help Australians to come together in 2021, in their driveways, on their balconies, or in their living rooms at 6am to commemorate Australia’s deeply held ANZAC traditions. RSL will produce a shortened personal service and participation kits for use across our community – please check back with this page closer to the day to download your service.
RSL Queensland is working with its vast network of 230 Sub Branches to establish where local community commemorations can be safely conducted to enable all Queenslanders to pay their respects to the State’s veterans this coming ANZAC Day. All public health guidelines will inform our planning as ANZAC Day draws closer, and the health and safety of our veterans and community members will remain our foremost concern. We will be publishing a map of services and activities across the country in coming weeks as these details are finalised.

Times are tough for many at the moment and, sadly, that includes many in our Defence family.
If you are in a position to help financially, there are two ways you can help us continue supporting veterans.
The ANZAC Appeal is one of the major sources of funds for our Sub Branches, helping them provide vital support to veterans in every corner of the state. 100% of funds donated to the ANZAC Appeal are returned to our Sub Branches and Districts.
